Greetings
out there in NTN land.
We are entering the hot and sticky part of summer here. Take plenty of water
out with you on your journey to the field site.

In this mailing youll find the newest version of the
ID decal for your collector. Please apply it to the NTN collector as
instructed below:
1) Use a paper towel to wipe the collector surface clean.
2) Print your SITE ID plainly on the decal in the place provided using a
permanent marker.
3) Carefully peel the paper off the decal (NOTE: these are hard to peel).
4) Position the decal on the side of the collector frame underneath the sensor
as shown in Figure 1.
5) Let us know how the decal weathers and adheres over time. |

| Raingage
chart installation:
When placing a chart onto the raingage, align the lower
pen with the local time. Due to the pen off-set, make sure that the lower
pen is aligned with the time NOT the upper pen or errors can occur in the
interpretation of the daily precipitation data recorded by the lower pen (the
midnight line used to separate the daily values will not be accurate). See
Figure 3-21, note that the precipitation pen (lower) started at ~ 0700 (local
time) and the event recorder pen (upper) ~ 0400. This offset is typical and must
be maintained so that the precipitation pen can cross underneath the event
recorder pen during heavy rainfalls. For more information, see page 3-9 of the NTN
Site Operation Manual. |

Hello!
We are starting to cool off a
bit here in central Illinois. We hope the dry part of summer is over. Were
looking forward to needed precipitation to recharge our groundwater levels
before winter. Speaking of winter . . .
WINTERIZING:
The memo requesting the removal of the funnel and the addition of antifreeze to
your Belfort raingage is enclosed. DO NOT WAIT. If you are getting cold
temperatures, go ahead and winterize NOW! See section 5.2.2.1 of the Site
Operation Manual or the procedure pages at the back of the CALendar. Call
Scott if you have questions (800-952-7353) |

NEW RAINGAGE STUDY:
Six sites will soon be up-and-running with a new high technology raingage. USGS
is sponsoring the work at these specially selected sites. The OTT Pluvio (from
the Latin pluvia, for rain) is the raingage being tested. It is an
all-electronic gage; it may be the gage that serves the NADP through the next 20
years. Want to know more? Log into the website http://www.ccla.com/ott2.htm.
