How to Find Us

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  We all wish you a great 2000.
New Site Operation Manual: By now you may have explored the new revision of the NTN Site Operation Manual (the "green book"). To get the "skinny" on important procedural changes, please read "Summary of Revisions" (pages xi and xii). This summary discusses changes such as the removal of Box #3 from the FORF, the way each section of the FORF is organized in the manual, the addition of a DI water rinse step after pH calibration, and other improvements to make your NTN work easier or faster. We  suggest you review the Table of Contents to see what the new manual offers. A copy of the manual can be viewed and downloaded from the NADP website at www.nadp.sws.uiuc.edu, in the Publications section.
Operation Manual Update - Enclosed in this mailing is a new page 1-3,1-4, the new site map, showing all stations now operational. Please remove the old page 1-3, 1-4 and replace it with the new one.
NEW PROCEDURE ALERT - Dry-Side Bucket and Foam Pad Cleaning - Pages 3-6 and 3-7 of the Operation Manual provide “how-to” information for dry-side bucket and collector foam lid seal cleaning. This procedure is now slated for the first Tuesday of each month. You no longer need to count 8 weeks since the last cleaning.

HELLO. On Valentine’s Day my wife had a singing telegram delivered to my office. Guess what, I was out! The quintet sang the message onto my answering machine. Just a reminder to you that when you don’t find me in, leave a message, too.

SITE AUDITS: The audit team from Advanced Technology Systems has begun the second round of NTN site audits. Tom, Dave, and their staff will review equipment function, field and lab operating protocols, and answer any questions you have about site operations. The first round was very successful, and we are thoroughly reviewing the data collected. One area of particular concern is site maintenance, especially in regard to trimming vegetation, proximity to other equipment, and set back distances from roads and parking areas. For a quick guide and review of these issues see Figure 5-1 in the new NTN Site Operation Manual, (July 1999).

BAR CODING: We recently expanded our bar coding system to track supplies, and mailers. There are now bar code labels on the inside of your mailer lid. Please do not attempt to remove them. REMEMBER TO ROTATE YOUR MAILERS, USING THE OLDEST ONE FIRST.

Take care, let’s wish for an early spring.

IMPORTANT NOTE–The Preliminary Printout dated 2/17/00 contained an error. The Preliminary Printout dated 2/17/00 contained an error. The concentration values for SO4 and Cl were switched for sample IDs NT5001 through NT5300. These values have been corrected on this month’s printout; samples affected are marked with an asterisk.
TRAINING COURSE–The session set for May 16-18 is filling up! If you are a new site operator, you have never attended, or your site has not been represented at training for 3 or 4 years, please call to sign up for the course. There is no charge for the course and we can provide some travel support. It’s first-come, first-served, so call me at 800-952-7353.

COLOR-CODED BUCKETS, LIDS AND BOTTLES–One of our eagle-eyed operators asked about the colored marking on the buckets, lids, and bottles. We initiated a new color coding system in January 2000, to keep the CAL supplies sent to you fresh. For example, if it’s a "blue" week and we still have a few "red" materials left, the "red" materials are used first. Take care. Scott
